2 Chronicles 14:9-13

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Zerah the Cushite marched out against them with a vast army and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah. Asa went out to meet him, and they took up battle positions in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah. Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O Lord, you are God; do not let man prevail against you.” The Lord struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled, and Asa and his army pursued them as far as Gerar. Such a great number of Cushites fell that they could not recover; they were crushed before the Lord and His forces. The men of Judah carried off a large amount of plunder.

Devotion

The hallmark of Asa’s reign came in his tenth year as king. He was attacked by a massive Ethiopian army. Yet he did not trust in his own strength, nor did he turn to his foreign allies for help. He placed his trust in the Lord and was granted a tremendous victory. Asa was still humbly dependent on the Lord. The Apostle Paul echoes this same thought in Ephesians 6:10, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.”

The Big Question

God often allows a “test” as a way of examining our dependence upon Him. Has God recently allowed a trial or a test to come into your life? Have you considered that this is God’s invitation to you to trust Him more?

Spend some time in prayer meditating on what God has revealed to you through His Word today.
