Bible Reading

They taught in Judah, having the book of the law of the Lord with them; and they went throughout all the cities of Judah and taught among the people. The fear of the Lord fell on all the kingdoms and lands surrounding Judah, so that they did not make war with Jehoshaphat. Some Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and silver as tribute, and the Arabs brought him flocks…Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful; he built forts and store cities in Judah…

Devotion

Significant detail is given to the tangible blessings that Judah enjoyed during the early years of Jehoshaphat’s rule. Foreign nations dared not make war with Judah. Not since Solomon did a Jewish king have such esteem among the rulers of the world. The emphasis of their teaching would have been the laws given to Moses. Jehoshaphat knew that these laws had been given not only to guide the nation, but also that they might be blessed through them and, in turn, be a blessing to other nations.

The Big Question

When God’s Word is viewed as mere restrictions, we miss the real purpose behind God’s commandments. He loves us and wants to give us life. How do you view God’s Word? Do you find delight in obedience? Are you experiencing the blessings of God as you walk intimately with Him? Are the people around you blessed because you are walking closely with your God?

Spend some time meditating on what God revealed to you today.
