2 Chronicles 19:4-7

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

So Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem and went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and brought them back to the Lord, the God of their fathers. He appointed judges in the land in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city. He said to the judges, “Consider what you are doing, for you do not judge for man but for the Lord who is with you when you render judgment. Now then let the fear of the Lord be upon you; be very careful what you do, for the Lord your God will have no part in unrighteousness or partiality or the taking of a bribe.”

Devotion

To his credit, Jehoshaphat was a true “comeback king.” When he made mistakes, he accepted responsibility, humbled himself before the Lord and reset his heart to walk in God’s ways. His nationwide judicial reform movement followed immediately upon the heels of his foolish choice to go to war with Ahab. Perhaps Jehoshaphat knew the principle from Proverbs: “Righteousness exalts a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).

The Big Question

In a similar fashion, the Apostle Paul said whatever kind of work we do, we should realize that we are serving God, not men, in our work. As you think about all that you do in a given day, do you perform your work as “for the Lord?” Is God present in your thoughts in all that you do? From God’s perspective, your work is your ministry if you do your work for His glory. Are you revealing God to those whom you work with and for?

Spend some time in prayer meditating on what God revealed to you today.
