Our History.

For Oak Pointe Church, Acts 29 Started on February 2, 1997 – The Day Our Church Was Born.

A little group of 60 launched out with the dream of seeing the hand of God move in our lives. We wanted God to use us to make a difference in our world. Now, we are ten years into His story for us. It is good to reflect back on what God has already done among us. Here’s the Reader’s Digest version of our first decade.

We Have Seen God Move Among Us.

Our little group of 60 has turned into over 2,000 men, women and children. Lives have been changed by Christ. The community has responded to our presence and life groups have multiplied from house to house. Children’s lives have been transformed. Junior and senior high students bring their parents to church! Men and women meet weekly to study God’s Word; young couples and singles are gathering for life-transforming experiences.

In answer to continual prayer for a second church plant, God brought Shannon and Jessica Nielsen to Oak Pointe. Mosaic church was born and sent out into the Ann Arbor community in September of 2009! Learn more here.

A new church, Bell Creek Church, sprang forth from us, and that movement is now growing. Mission partnerships have formed in Africa and Asia. Resources of people, skills, and finances are going to the world. With no building of our own, God gave us spaces that grew with our needs. He has blessed us with pastors and staff to equip and teach us. Lay people are using their gifts and talents to serve Christ in innumerable ways. New ministries are being born as God raises up visionary, Spirit-empowered leaders to guide us.

Gloria Deus: For The Glory of God.

And who could recount the story of our first decade without mentioning the Gloria Deus Field with its unique “destined-for-God’s-glory story.” And recall the way God fought for us to make that Gloria Deus dream a reality!

Today we have moved into our amazing new church home. We're fully enjoying weekly worship celebrations, outreach concerts, youth nights, family movie nights, and baptisms! It feels as if we are on the verge of a whole new phase of the Acts 29 story of Oak Pointe Church!

God has been writing an Acts 29 story through us this past decade. It is humbling to realize that God still uses ordinary people to write an extraordinary story today. To God be all the glory!
