Our membership process is designed to give a solid foundation of who OPC is as a church: our beliefs, our values,
our structure, and our principles for living. We encourage members to support OPC through prayer, worship, growth disciplines,
Life Group involvement, service and reaching out to others.
Contact Debbie Brunk at 248.912.0043, x364 or debbie@oakpointe.org if you'd like more information.
Steps of Membership:
- Discover OPC
Interested in learning more about our church? Attend Discover OPC, and find out all about our vision, beliefs & background.
The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, and the class will include a Q&A with our senior pastor, Bob Shirock. This class is
open to anyone and is required for membership. Register online for the Discover OPC class.
- Join OPC
Interested in membership? Come to Join OPC. This class digs deeper into foundational Christian principles and
provides the necessary information for those seeking membership. It also includes a Q&A with our life groups pastor, Greg Moore.
There is a membership self-study workbook that accompanies this class. Register online for the Join OPC class.
- Membership Application
Use the online Membership Application Form and email it
debbie@oakpointe.org.
-or-
Use the printable Membership Application Form
(PDF), and mail the completed application
to the church office at 50200 W. 10 Mile Road, Novi, MI 48374.
- Membership Workbook
This self-study workbook accompanies the Join OPC class and helps you go deeper in a personal study on 5 key aspects of our church membership: grace,
growth, groups, gifts, and good stewardship. It'll give you an opportunity to reflect on what these things mean to you and how you might incorporate
them into your daily life. The Workbook is recommended to be completed prior to the Join OPC class. Expect 2-3 hours to complete the workbook,
but do please come to the class even if the workbook is not finished. Required for membership.
- Elder Interview
Once your membership application is received (and you've completed the two classes and workbook) you will be
scheduled to meet with an elder for a 45-minute interview (if married, you can both meet with the elder together).
This is a great opportunity for you to connect with one of the spiritual leaders at the church, ask additional
questions, and review next steps appropriate for your personal spiritual journey. We want to help our members grow in their relationship with God and others.
- Believer's Baptism
We require baptism for membership, which is an outward declaration of one's faith in Jesus Christ.
Baptism does not make you a believer; it shows that you already are one. We accept previous baptisms
(immersion or sprinkling) as long as the baptism was done after the acceptance of Christ as your personal savior
(i.e., we do not accept infant baptisms). If you need to be baptized, you can go through all of the membership
steps and we will hold your membership until your baptism is complete.
- Optional
Occasionally, it might be necessary for someone before membership to review their personal
faith journey and explore the claims of Christianity at a deeper level. Classes such as Introduction to Christianity,
Tough Questions, and other resources are available to help you in this discovery process.
