Daniel 7:13-14

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was lead into His presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshipped Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and His kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

– Daniel 7:13-14

Devotion

In the second half of the book of Daniel, God gives Daniel several visions. In the vision above, Daniel is shown “one like a son of man” which is a reference to the future Messiah who would come and set up His everlasting kingdom. Here we see the Son of Man is invested with authority to take the kingdoms of this world from the Gentiles and establish His eternal kingdom. Jesus referred to this prophecy in Mark 14 when the high priest asked Him if he was the Messiah. Jesus responded, “I am and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” The high priest considered this blasphemy. Because of this, Jesus was condemned to death and turned over to the Gentile authorities. The die was cast. The long-awaited Messiah would begin his march toward death and secure the salvation of mankind.

The Big Question

In Matthew 16, Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They offered up several different responses. Then Jesus asked a more personal question: “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Jesus confirmed Peter’s response. In the end, we each must answer this same question. When Jesus asks you; “Who do you say I am?” What will be your response?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
