Ezekiel 3:1-8

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

And He said to me, “Son of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to the house of Israel.” So I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat. Then He said to me, “Son of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth. Then He said to me: “Son of man, now go to the house of Israel and speak my words to them. You are not being sent to a people of obscure speech and difficult language, but to the house of Israel—not to many peoples of obscure speech and difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. Surely if I had sent you to them, they would have listened to you. But the house of Israel is not willing to listen to you because they are not willing to listen to Me, for the whole house of Israel is hardened and obstinate. But I will make you as unyielding and hardened as they are.”

-Ezekiel 3:1-8

Devotion

The scroll Ezekiel was to eat was the Word of God. He was to speak the words that God had given to him. Nothing more…nothing less! Ezekiel describes the scroll as “sweet as honey” in his mouth. God’s words would be a warning to the nation, and Ezekiel was entrusted declare to God’s message to a rebellious people. Israel had stopped listening to God’s words and thereby chose a more difficult road.

The Big Question

Like Ezekiel, we are entrusted with the Word of God. The Word of God should taste as “sweet as honey” to us and should become an integral part of our spiritual diet. No one can truly proclaim the Good News whose heart is not in it and who doesn’t believe every word of it. Is God’s Word a part of your daily spiritual meal plan? Do you take the time to read, study and meditate on God’s Word daily? Are you a faithful prophet (speaking God’s words to people in our day)?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
