Ezekiel 3:16-19

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

At the end of seven days the Word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from Me. When I say to a wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn him or speak out to dissuade him from his evil ways in order to save his life, that wicked man will die for his sin, and I will hold you accountable for his blood. But if you warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his evil ways, he will die for his sin; but you will have saved yourself.”

– Ezekiel 3:16-19

Devotion

God gives Ezekiel the job of being a watchman to warn his people. Along with this task comes the heavy responsibility of rightly declaring God’s message to His people. Just as each person is held accountable for how they respond to God, as God’s people, we too are held responsible for faithfully declaring God’s Good News to our generation. God sees each one of us individually and personally. He knows who is groaning over their sin, and who is not.

The Big Question

In a culture where many seek to escape responsibility for their own actions, God’s Word is counter-cultural. We each must accept personal responsibility for our own actions. As believers, we also must accept responsibility for the “message” and “ministry” of reconciliation. Are you able to recognize the promptings of the Holy Spirit when you stray outside the will of God? Do you respond with a humble and repentant heart? Are you a faithful watchman to your generation today? Are you always prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
