Habakkuk 2:2-4

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Then the Lord replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of an end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay. See he is puffed up; his desires are not upright-but the righteous will live by his faith… For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.

Devotion

Habakkuk is determined to hear what God is going to say regarding his questions. God speaks His vision to Habakkuk. God gives Habakkuk a revelation; a picture of His future kingdom. This is God’s way of saying to Habakkuk, “In the future, there will be no injustice or violence; My words will infiltrate every place and heart.” God’s answer to Habakkuk is that in the end, evil loses and God wins. How does this vision impact Habakkuk now? Babylon is coming! The vision is that, amidst treacherous times, God’s people will persevere by faith. This vision of God’s future kingdom humbles and strengthens Habakkuk to the point where adversity and doubt are co-mingled joy.
