Haggai 1:12-15

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the whole remnant of the people obeyed the voice of the Lord their God and the message of the prophet Haggai, because the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared the Lord. Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, gave this message of the Lord to the people: “I am with you.” Declares the Lord. So the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the hight priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God, on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month in the second year of King Darius.

Devotion

Upon hearing Haggai’s message from the Lord, Zerubbabel and Joshua and the returned exiles responded with faith and obedience. They put the work on their homes on hold as they worked together to rebuild the temple. God assures the people that He will be with them in this endeavor.

The Big Question

Once God’s message was delivered to the people, they realigned their priorities to bring them in line with God’s will. What do you do when you realize that your priorities are out of sync? Are you responsive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit? Do you exercise faith and obedience in response to God’s prompts? Does God’s promise to “be with you” encourage you in your spiritual walk?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God has revealed to you today.
