John 4:27-30, 39-42

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Just then His disciples returned and were surprised to find Him talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why are you talking with her?” Then leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” They came out of the town and made their way toward Him. Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to Him, they urged Him to stay with them, and He stayed two days. And because of His words many more became believers. They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

Devotion

Jesus’ disciples were troubled that He was talking to a Samaritan woman. None of them dared to say anything to Jesus. The Samaritan woman runs back to the village where she was an outcast and proclaims that perhaps she has met the Messiah. She urges them to come and see this man who offered her living water. Many of the villagers were curious and came out to check out this man who said He was the Messiah. After hearing Jesus speak, many of the villagers from that town believed in Him.

The Big Question

What aspect of Jesus did the woman excitedly tell her village about? How was Jesus able to win this woman’s heart? How did her encounter impact the people in her village? How has your encounter with Jesus impacted the people in your sphere of influence? What lessons do you learn from Jesus’ interviews with Nicodemus and the Samaritan woman?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
