Now a man named Micah from the hill country of Ephraim said to his mother, “The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from you and about which I heard you utter a curse-I have that silver with me; I took it.”
Then his mother said, “The Lord bless you, my son!”
When he returned the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother, she said, “I solemnly consecrate my silver to the Lord for my son to make an image overlaid with silver. I will give it back to you.”
So after he returned the silver to his mother, she took two hundred shekels of silver and gave them to a silversmith, who used them to make the idol. And it was put in Micah’s house.
Now this man Micah had a shrine, and he made an ephod and some household gods and installed one of his sons as his priest. In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.

Devotion
In this chapter we get a pulse of the spiritual beliefs and lives of the people of Israel. Here a family makes an idol and worships it! This is very reminiscent of the golden calf the Israelites made and worshiped at the foot of Mount Sinai. Our hearts are prone to wander after idols and seek to honor something other than God. We do this in our world today… we worship money, celebrities, status, family, sports, etc. There are many things that we give glory to before God. However these idols will never satisfy because our hearts were made to worship the one, true and only God.
The Big Question
Are you having a Samson moment in your walk with God right now? If so, pray and ask God for forgiveness. Acknowledge that your life is not your own, and that Christ truly is Lord of all. God will forgive and restore you as His son or daughter. Now pray and ask God to show you how He might use you to reveal Himself to a fallen world today!
