Proverbs 7:22-23

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

All at once he followed her [the adulteress] like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into the noose till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life.

– Proverbs 7:22-23

Devotion

Giving in to temptation is like an ox going to the slaughter or an animal getting caught in a trap. Like the prostitute, temptation is all dressed up—attractive and alluring, offering something to man that will actually destroy him. The young man in Proverbs seven yields to temptation. He goes willingly, not knowing that it will cost him his life, because he lacks judgment.

The Big Question

We have all been ensnared in the tempter’s trap. We have all given into temptation. Some of us are still paying the consequences of our entrapment. The Good News is that God is a God of mercy, grace, and forgiveness. Whatever our sin, God promises that “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sin and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9) Have you been caught in the tempter’s trap? What sin is weighing you down today? Have you gone to your heavenly Father and asked for His forgiveness with a repentant heart? If so, are you able to forgive yourself?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what you have learned.
