Proverbs 7:24-27

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say. Do not let your heart turn to her [the adulteress’s] ways or stray into her paths. Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng. Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.

– Proverbs 7:24-27

Devotion

Solomon exhorts his sons to listen to his godly counsel. His final instruction is this: “Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths.” Unfortunately, Solomon would eventually be ensnared by the temptress’s trap himself. Temptation is fought in the battlefield of our minds. In 2 Corinthians 10:5, Apostle Paul wrote, “Take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.” Proverbs 4:4 says, “Guard your heart (mind) for it is the wellspring of life.” Isaiah wrote, “You [God] will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3) Every day we must surrender our will (minds) and our ways (bodies) to God. Francis Chan once said, “We must actively stop loving God in order to sin.” If we are pursuing God with all our heart and mind, then we will not have the time or inclination to entertain the tempter!

The Big Question

Are you pursuing God with all your heart? Are you taking personal responsibility for your thought life? How can you take time out of your busy schedule to meet with God and allow Him to transform you by the renewing of your mind? If you build up a good spiritual immune system, when the tempter comes calling you can just ignore him!

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what you have learned.
