Psalm 13

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I take counsel in my soul
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,
lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.

But I have trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.

– Psalm 13

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

– Romans 8:31

Devotion

Have you ever felt that God has forgotten you? Have you ever been so overwhelmed that you feel as if you were alone in this world? Have you been in a place where all you feel is sorrow and fear? We have all experienced these emotions at different degrees throughout our lives. We can relate to David in Psalm 13 as he pours out his soul in sorrow, baring his feelings of deep anguish.

David questions if God has rejected or forgotten him and so ignores his cries. He pleads with God to bring life to his body, fearing death before his enemies. In his current state, he remains utterly shaken.

Even in the midst of his trials, David’s hope remained in God. Despite whatever the world threw at David, he knew that God is trustworthy. He knew that, during the storms, God remains steadfast in his love towards us. Regardless of what life brings, God remains our hope and salvation. When God is on our side, we have nothing to fear.

The Big Question

When the world feels as if it is falling apart around you, how can you find your hope in the God? How can you remind yourself that He remains steadfast, trustworthy, and the good Lord who saves us from our sins?

Conclude in prayer and silence reflecting on what you’ve learned.
