Psalm 18:30-36

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking him to meet you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

As for God, his way is perfect:
The Lord’s word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him.
For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God?
It is God who arms me with strength
and keeps my way secure.
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;
he causes me to stand on the heights.
He trains my hands for battle;
my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
You make your saving help my shield,
and your right hand sustains me;
your help has made me great.
You provide a broad path for my feet,
so that my ankles do not give way.

– Psalm 18:30-36

Devotion

Babies are astonishing to me. While humans are the most advanced species on the planet, we begin our lives as completely helpless. Certain animals are born and completely self dependent, yet for a human to survive, we must live the first few years of our lives in complete dependence on someone else. Eventually we grow up and are able to depend on ourselves to supply for our needs.

In Psalm 18, David describes how he is completely dependent upon God and God’s abilities for the very needs of his life. God strengthens David, enables David to stand, gives David victory and is David’s foundation. David lets us know that God is trustworthy in all of His ways and in all of His abilities.

Do you live in complete dependence on God’s abilities or do you live life dependent on your self? When you walk in complete dependence on God, you experience the help that He offers and the victory that He brings.

The Big Question

What are some areas that you refuse to depend upon God and His abilities? What can you do to live your life in greater dependence on God and His abilities?

Conclude in prayer and silence reflecting on what you’ve learned.
