Psalm 32:6-11

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Therefore let everyone who is godly
    offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found;
surely in the rush of great waters,
    they shall not reach him.
You are a hiding place for me;
    you preserve me from trouble;
    you surround me with shouts of deliverance.  Selah

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
    I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding,
    which must be curbed with bit and bridle,
    or it will not stay near you.
Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
    but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.

Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous,
    and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

– Psalm 32:6-11

Devotion

In verse 8 of Psalm 32, David records how God responds to his repentance: God will instruct him and counsel him, giving him direction and steadfast love. These words show us the very heart of God. He doesn’t want you flailing in sin and confusion, wondering what to do next and how to serve Him. He is watching you and calling you to the greatest life possible. Of course, the abundant life that He calls us to involves surrendering to His will and His desires. Let Him tell you which way to go.

The Big Question

Do you trust God’s plan for you more that you trust yourself? Are you intent on listening to God and following His direction? Those who place their trust in themselves eventually find out that a self-directed life is no life at all. Joy is found by those who willingly follow Him.

Conclude in prayer and silence reflecting on what you’ve learned.
