Psalm 62:7-12

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

My salvation and my honor depend on God;
    he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, you people;
    pour out your hearts to him,
    for God is our refuge.

Surely the lowborn are but a breath,
    the highborn are but a lie.
If weighed on a balance, they are nothing;
    together they are only a breath.
Do not trust in extortion
    or put vain hope in stolen goods;
though your riches increase,
    do not set your heart on them.

One thing God has spoken,
    two things I have heard:
“Power belongs to you, God,
    and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”;
and, “You reward everyone
    according to what they have done.”

– Psalm 62:7-12 NIV

Devotion

The dictionary defines trust as:

1. (noun) Firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. Example: “Good relationships have to be built on trust.” Synonyms: confidence, belief, faith, certainty, assurance, conviction, credence; reliance.

2. (verb) Believe in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of. Example: “You can trust me.” Synonyms: rely on, depend on, bank on, count on, be sure of.

David knew where to place his trust. He urged others to trust in God, not in their own power, possessions (especially those obtained by theft or extortion), or pursuit of greater wealth. Read over again the synonyms of both the noun and the verb definitions of “trust.” God is reliable, true, able and strong. He deserves to be trusted!

The Big Question

Is there someone in your life who you trust completely? What happens to a relationship when you lose trust in someone? Is it possible for them to gain back your trust? How long would it take? Can others trust you completely? How can you build trust in your relationships with others in healthy, God-honoring ways? How can you build trust in your relationship with God?
