Devotion

When you lean on something, you place your whole weight on it, trusting that it will support you. You trust that it will not let you fall. When we need to make important decisions, sometimes we feel that we can’t trust anyone to know which choices would be best for us-not even God. When faced with a choice between what we think is best and what God has revealed to us through His Word, we can always trust that His way is the best way. God has given us the ability to reason; but our reasoning can be faulty and what we desire is not always good for us. God clearly knows what is best for us. He is a better judge of what we need than we are. Those who believe in God should always be willing to listen to and be corrected by God’s Holy Word. God will lead us in our decisions if we pray, study His Word and seek His direction. Trusting God does not mean that we will escape loss or suffering, but Psalm 9 tells us that God himself will never leave us, no matter what circumstances we face. We can lean on God; He will never let us fall.

The Big Question

Has there ever been a time when you didn’t feel like you could trust anybody other than yourself to help you make decisions for your life? Which major life decisions have you made based on your own understanding? On the other hand, have you ever done something God’s way, even though you didn’t understand how it could be better than what you thought would be best? Which outcomes were more satisfying? Lean on God today and trust that He will never let you fall.

Conclude in prayer and silence reflecting on what you’ve learned.
