Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

One day Elisha went to Shunem. And a well-to-do woman was there, who urged him to stay for a meal. So whenever he came by, he stopped there to eat. She said to her husband, “I know this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God. Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in a bed and a table, a chair and lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.”

– 2 Kings 4:8-10

Devotion

The story of the Shunammite woman is another example of how God uses ordinary people to minister to God’s called out servants. This story also shows us that God rewards those who minister to His called out ones in powerful ways. As the result of her gracious hospitality to Elisha, the Shunammite woman would be blessed with having a son. When her son died, God would use Elisha to restore life to her son. Her compassion and wealth led her to care for people. This woman had learned contentment though she lacked a child. Elisha saw her loss yet peace, and prayed that God would give her a son, which He did. This woman was blessed in many ways through her faith and obedience to God’s Word and Elisha.

The Big Question

Does your life reflect the grace and compassion of Christ? If God were to ask you to designate one room in your house for a traveling missionary, would you respond in faith and obedience? God shows favor on those who minister to His called out ones. How might you minister or be a blessing to those God has called to lead you spiritually?

Spend some time in prayer meditating on what God revealed to you today.
