Eccelsiastes 5:8-10

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

If you see in a province the oppression of the poor and the violation of justice and righteousness, do not be amazed at the matter, for the high official is watched by a higher, and there are yet higher ones over them. But this is gain for a land in every way: a king committed to cultivated fields.

He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.

– Eccelsiastes 5:8-10

Devotion

Everyone is under God’s authority. It doesn’t matter how much money you have or how important people think you are. Every person on earth is watched by the same God. Knowledge of this provides us the comfort of remembering that even the wicked, who seem to have no trouble in this life, will eventually answer to Him. It also makes us accountable to God, knowing that He sees how we treat each person. The rich are no more important to God than the poor. The people we know and love are no more important to Him than those who are strangers to us. Injustice occurs when we value ourselves more highly than others. In God’s eyes, all lives are valuable, regardless of their wealth or position.

The Big Question

Have you seen injustice this week? Does it stir your soul? It stirs God’s. Ask God to help you to remember what is truly important as you go through your day so you will not waste your time pursuing what never satisfies while disregarding the welfare of others. Ask God to help you to see and value all people so you treat them justly.

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what you have learned.
