Ecclesiastes 3:11

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

He (God) has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

“Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.”

– Ecclesiastes 3:11, John 17:3

Devotion

Why is it that we yearn to live forever? According to the Word of God through Solomon, it is because God has placed that desire within us. Deep in our spiritual DNA is the desire to live with God eternally. As Jesus works to transform us for His purposes, He enables us to live life with eternity in view. For believers, this begins at the moment of salvation. Paul states that as believers we are not “citizens” of this world. Instead our citizenship is in heaven. Most people live for the here-and-now. As believers, we look forward to knowing and being with God long after this world has passed away.

The Big Question

What motivates you to get out of bed every day? Do you constantly seek God’s eternal perspective as you live in this physical realm? How do you balance the “here-and-now” with eternity? Read Matthew chapter ten and try to pick out the different ways Jesus was helping His disciples see things from an eternal perspective.

Conclude your time in prayer and silence, reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
