The 400 years between Malachi and Matthew are often called “the silent years” because the voice of God through the prophets ceased. Yet, these were very tumultuous and significant years for the Jewish nation and the other nations as God prepared to send His Son into the world. During the “silent years”, God was shaping the landscape of the world in such a way that the Son of God’s coming would have maximum impact on the world then and forever. God is clearly seen working behind the scenes to prepare the world for the arrival of the long-awaited Messiah. Everything was just right, so that, Jesus’ message and life would have maximum impact.
