Now Abraham moved on from there into the region of the Negev and lived between Kadesh and Shur. For a while he stayed in Gerar, and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, “She is my sister.” Then Abimelek king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her.

Devotion
Once again, Abraham tried to protect himself with a lie. Although Abraham is one of our heroes of the faith, he didn’t really learn his lesson very well the first time. In fact, by Abraham giving in to the temptation again, he risked turning one sinful act into a pattern of sin by lying whenever he suspected his life was in danger.
No matter how much we love God, certain temptations can be very difficult to resist. These are those vulnerable spots in our lives we think we can control, and often in vain. As we all struggle with these weaknesses we can be encouraged that God is with us just as He was with Abraham to see us through. Let us remember God’s faithfulness in how He has given us victory over Satan’s lies and deceit in the past and rely on the power of the Holy Spirit that resides in all of us who are His children.

Can you remember times in your Christian walk where God dealt with those little white lies or half-truths? What was the outcome? Why do we continue to commit the same sins again and again? How can we have victory over repeated sins?
