Genesis 1:26-27

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Then God said, “Let Us make man in our image, in our likeness…” So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Who (Jesus), being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross. Therefore, God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father.

Devotional

We clearly see from the Genesis text that the Father and the Son purposed to make mankind in their image. They created us to reflect their character or nature. We were created to know and to relate to our Creator. This is why Jesus took on the form of man to enter into this world and to relate to us as one of us. This is why Paul writes, “For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have One who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.” Jesus became like us, so that, we could become like Him! Jesus came to restore “the image of God” in man.

The Big Question

We were created to know and reflect God. Sin marred the image of God in man. Jesus came to restore God’s image in us. How does it make you feel to know that God would enter into this world as a man (Jesus) to relate to His creation? How does it make you feel to know that through faith in Jesus, the image of God is being restored in your life? Have you placed your faith in the person and work of Christ?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
