Genesis 15:1-7

Begin your time today by getting quiet before the Lord.

Bible Reading

“After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: ‘Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.’ But Abram said, ‘Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?’ And Abram said, ‘You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.’

Then the word of the Lord came to him: ‘This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.’ He took him outside and said, ‘Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.’ Then He said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.’ Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it to him as righteousness. He also said to him, ‘I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.'”

Devotion

This is now the fourth time that God has revealed Himself to Abram. God is developing this man as He reveals Himself, His purposes, and His ways to him. God has now established a track record in Abram’s life. We see Abram’s growth in verse six: “Abram believed the Lord, and He (God) credited it to him as righteousness.” As a result of Abram’s faith, he found right standing with God.

In the same way, God works in our lives to reveal Himself, His purposes, and His ways. As we get to know Him more intimately, we recognize His track record in our lives. This encourages us to trust Him even more. Throughout my Christian experience, God has continually revealed Himself as the One who protects and blesses His spiritual offspring. Faith in the person and work of Christ is how we are reconciled to God. God declares the sinner righteous by simply trusting in Christ. Just like Abram, we are reconciled to God by faith and live each day by faith in the One who protects and blesses.

The Big Question

Has there ever been a time in your life where you knowingly trusted in the person and work of Christ for your eternal salvation? If not, why not?

As you recall God’s track record in your life, how can this help you when you find yourself experiencing a crisis of belief?

Conclude in prayer and silence reflecting on how God has revealed Himself to you today.
