The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

– Jeremiah 17:9

Devotion

The last step in the decision making process is: Check your Heart. Scripture warns us that without the surrender of our heart to God, our heart, which is the combination of our thinking, our emotions, and our desires, cannot be trusted. If our hearts are not in alignment with God’s heart, there can be devastating consequences. This is why we must always check our motives to make sure our hearts are lining up with God’s heart. This is why David wrote, “Search me, God, know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

The Big Question

Why do you do what you do? What are your motives for serving God? Are you constantly asking God to search your heart? Are you aware of any impure motives that might be affecting your decision making process today? Are you taking the time to check with God, check with God’s Word, check with godly counsel, check the facts, and check your heart?

Spend some time in prayer meditating on what God revealed to you through His Word today.
