Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. Here He stayed, and many people came to Him. They said, “Though John never performed a miraculous sign, all that John said about this man was true.” And in that place, many believed in Jesus.

Devotion

What was John the Baptist’s testimony about Jesus? “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me.’ Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. This is the Son of God.” John’s testimony was clear concerning the identity of Jesus. John the Baptist was the forerunner to the Christ. John’s mission was to prepare the world for the coming of the Holy One. When Jesus presented Himself to John, John declared, “I must decrease, and He must increase.” John the Baptist was the long-awaited prophet who would precede the Christ. The religious leaders not only rejected Christ’s testimony and His miracles, they also rejected the testimony of John the Baptist who truly was a prophet sent from God.

The Big Question

Jesus declares Himself to be the “Gate” and the “Good Shepherd.” These are both metaphors to communicate that He truly is the “Way” to the Father. Jesus is God’s provision for our sin. He came to reconcile us to God. All we must do is believe or trust in the One who was sent to be the Savior of the world. What will you do with Jesus’ claims? Are you trusting in the person and work of Christ for your salvation?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence, reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
