John 1:14

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

– John 1:14

Devotional

It is impossible to rightly view the earthly life of Jesus without looking at His eternal pre-existence. In Jesus, the eternal God took on humanity and “made His dwelling among us” (John 1:14). This is why the Gospel of John begins not with a birth narrative (like Matthew and Luke); but a view into eternity where the “Word of God” existed in face-to-face fellowship with the Father. The Creator of all things (the Son of God) was coming to be with His creation and to redeem it from the fall. When He did come, He said and did things that only God could say and do, precisely because He was God. Jesus was much more than a teacher, a prophet, or a miracle-worker; He was the “firstborn of all creation” coming to reclaim His inheritance.

The Big Question

Knowing that Jesus was God in human form changes the meaning and impact of the entire narrative of the life of Jesus. How does it make you feel to know that it was God on the cross paying for and taking the punishment for your sins? What does this teach you about the character of God?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
