John 11:45-53

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Therefore, many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what He did believed in Him. But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. So the chief priests and the Pharisees convened the Sanhedrin and were saying, “What are we going to do since this man is doing many signs? If we let Him go on like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.” One of them, Caiaphas, who was the high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all! You’re not considering that it is to your advantage that one man should die for the people rather than the whole nation perish.” He did not say this on his own but being High Priest that year he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but also to unite the scattered children of God. So, from that day on, they plotted to kill Him.

Devotion

Jesus’ ministry is coming to a close. The die has been cast. The religious leaders are now conspiring to kill Him. His days are numbered. All that is left is to present Himself to the nation (triumphal entry into Jerusalem) and then await His arrest and execution. Jesus is committed to complete the mission His Father entrusted to Him.

The Big Question

How did the people react to the resurrection of Lazarus? What did the Jewish leaders conclude about Jesus because of the miracle of the resurrection of Lazarus? What were the motives of the Jewish leaders for wanting Jesus dead? What does this reveal about the heart of man?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence, reflecting on what God revealed today.
