John 13:31-38

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Now when he (Judas) had left, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him. If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself and will glorify Him at once. Children, I am with you a little while longer. You will look for Me, and just as I told the Jews, so now I tell you: ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’ I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” “Lord,” Simon Peter said to Him, “where are you going?” Jesus answered, “Where I am going you can not follow Me now, but you will follow later.” “Lord,” Peter asked, “why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for You.” Jesus replied, “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly I tell you, a rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times.”

Devotion

Jesus is preparing His disciples for what is to come. With Judas on his way to betray Jesus, He knew that His time with His disciples was coming to a close. He instructs His disciples to love one another as He loved them. This would be evidence that they were His disciples. Once again, Peter makes a bold statement only to be told he would deny Jesus three times by morning.

The Big Question

How does your love for Jesus show outside of the Body of Christ? How does your love show within the Body of Christ? How do you think Peter felt when Jesus told him what he would do in the coming hours? What are some ways that we deny Jesus every day? Peter would eventually experience Christ’s forgiveness and restoration. How does this encourage you today?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence, reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
