Joshua 6:22-25

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking him to meet you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house and bring her out and all who belong to her, in accordance with your oath to her.” So the young men who had done the spying went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother, her brothers and sisters and all who belonged to her. They brought out her entire family and put them in a place outside the camp of Israel. Then they burned the whole city and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the Lord’s house. But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua has sent as spies to Jericho – and she lives among the Israelites to this day.

– Joshua 6:22-25

Devotion

The Canaanites were wicked people with no moral character at all. Rahab was a prostitute living in this environment who had the courage to hide the spies. She took the risk because she sensed the Israelites relied on a God worth trusting. God rewarded Rahab by promising safety for her and her family. God works through people like Rahab, whom we are often inclined to reject. God remembered her because of her faith not her profession.

The Big Question

Rahab becomes an ancestor of David and Jesus (Matthew 1:5) because of her faith. She did not let fear affect her faith in God’s ability to deliver. Are there areas in your life that you need to trust God more?

Are there people that you have ignored, mistreated, judged because they are different from you? Do you need to ask them or God for forgiveness?

Conclude in prayer and silence, reflecting on what you’ve learned.
