Bible Reading

Then Moses took the anointing oil and anointed the Tabernacle and everything in it, making them holy. He sprinkled the oil on the altar seven times, anointing it and all its utensils, as well as the washbasin and its stand, making them holy. Then he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head, anointing him and making him holy for his work.

Devotion

Aaron is anointed as the High Priest of Israel. The High Priest lifts the tribes of Israel on his shoulders and intercedes for the people before God. The High Priest is to constantly remember that he is set apart for service and that his life-style is to be consistent with his calling.

Because of this, the High Priest had special duties that no other priest had. He alone could enter the Most Holy Place in the tabernacle on the Day of Atonement to atone for the sins of the nation. Therefore, he was in charge of all the other priests.

Aaron, as High Priest, symbolizes Jesus, our High Priest (Hebrews 7:26-28) who lifts us up before God as he intercedes (Hebrews 7:25 and 1 John 2:1) on our behalf and ministers for us in accordance with the holiness of God.

The Big Question

Is Jesus your High Priest? If so, are you also interceding on behalf of others?

Conclude in prayer and silence reflecting on what you’ve learned.
