Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking him to meet you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Then Moses presented the bull for the sin offering. Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the bull’s head, and Moses slaughtered it. Moses took some of the blood, and with his finger he put it on the four horns of the altar to purify it. He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. Through this process, he made the altar holy by purifying it. Then Moses took all the fat around the internal organs, the long lobe of the liver, and the two kidneys and the fat around them, and he burned it all on the altar. He took the rest of the bull, including its hide, meat, and dung, and burned it on a fire outside the camp, just as the Lord had commanded him.

– Leviticus 8:14-17

So Aaron went to the altar and slaughtered the calf as a sin offering for himself. His sons brought him the blood, and he dipped his finger in it and put it on the horns of the altar. He poured out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar.

– Leviticus 9:8-9

Devotion

After getting direction from God, Moses shows Aaron how he is to make all the offerings. After the week of training has passed, Moses summons Aaron and his sons and they are now going to make the offerings for themselves and the people. Aaron will make the offerings exactly as Moses has instructed him to do.

This is a great picture of discipleship. In discipleship, we show people how to live obedient lives to Christ by immersing them in the Word of God and showing them how to live it out. Immersion is the best way of learning (according to educators and sociologists)! The best way to learn a new language is to be surrounded by people who practice that language. In the same way, the best way to learn discipleship is to be surrounded by God’s word and people who practice it.

Moses immersed Aaron and his sons in the ways of performing the offerings and then had them obediently perform the offerings in the exact same way. Jesus did the same with the 12 disciples when he showed them how to interact with people and then sent them out to do the same.
