Leviticus 8:22-23

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking him to meet you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

“Bring Aaron and his sons, along with their sacred garments, the anointing oil, the bull for the sin offering, the two rams, and the basket of bread made without yeast, and call the entire community of Israel together at the entrance of the Tabernacle.” So Moses followed the Lord’s instructions, and the whole community assembled at the Tabernacle entrance.

– Leviticus 8:2-4

Then Moses presented the other ram, which was the ram of ordination. Aaron and his sons laid their hands on the ram’s head, and Moses slaughtered it. Then Moses took some of its blood and applied it to the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, the thumb of his right hand, and the big toe of his right foot.

Devotion

Taking some of the animals blood, Moses places it on the ear, thumb and toe of Aaron and his sons. By virtue of this special dedication offering, Aaron and his sons are to remember that everything they hear with their ears, do with their hands, and where they go with their feet, is to be totally consecrated to the Lord. Anything less is detestable to God and a bad example to the people.

Jesus the Messiah exemplified a perfect dedication in whatever he heard and did, and wherever he walked. We too, are priests anointed by the blood of Jesus. The anointing of the Old Testament priests is an example of how we are to use our ears, hands and feet for the Lord.

The Big Question

How are you using your ears, hands and feet for the Lord? How can you do a better job of being used by God?

Conclude in prayer and silence reflecting on what you’ve learned.
