But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of his father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; His kingdom will never end.” Mary asked, “How will this be since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born to you will be called the Son of God.” “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.”

Devotional

The Gospel of Luke was penned by Luke, a Greek, the Apostle Paul’s traveling companion: a researcher, physician, historian, litterateur, evangelist, and pastor. Luke highlights Jesus’ humanity through the eyes of Mary; Jesus’ mother. In this gospel, we learn of Jesus’ love and grace toward women, children, outcasts, enemies and for those who are lost or are far from God. This book was written to strengthen the faith of all believers and to answer the attack of unbelievers. In this book, Luke is able to introduce his readers to the God/Man; Jesus. In this writing we read about the divine Son of God who also takes on the title of the Son of Man. Divine yet human! We truly have a High Priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses…one who was tempted in every way just like us…yet was without sin. He became one of us to relate to us and to reconcile us to the Father!

The Big Question

Jesus Christ of the scriptures is fully God and fully man! How does it make you feel to know that Jesus left His throne in Heaven to come to this earth that He might reconcile you to God? How does it make you feel to know that Jesus truly relates to our humanity in that He experienced everything we experience in being part of the human family? Is it easier to relate to Jesus knowing that He understands the struggles and trials you face on a daily basis?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
