Luke 2:25-33

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

“Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for Him what the custom of the law required, Simeon took Him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which You have prepared in the sight of all people, a light of revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.” The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about Him.”

Devotional

“In the fullness of time, God sent forth His Son.” Even though God had not spoken through a prophet for 400 years, we discover in the New Testament that God preserved a true remnant of believers who waited for the hope of the coming Messiah. Simeon is a perfect example of one who believed the scriptures despite 400 years of spiritual darkness. Others like Anna, Zechariah, Elizabeth, Mary and Joseph, demonstrate there were some who still waited with hope for God’s promise to be fulfilled. Faith had survived despite 400 years of spiritual darkness.

The Big Question

Just as first century believers waited patiently for God’s promise of the first advent of the Messiah to be fulfilled, we too wait patiently for the promise of Christ’s second advent to be fulfilled. How does the faith and patience of these precious saints encourage you to keep believing in God and His promises?
