Luke 8:1-3

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the “Good News” of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with Him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.

Devotional

There were female followers of Jesus as well as men. Throughout the Gospels, women played a prominent role in the earthly ministry of Jesus. They came from different walks of life and supported Jesus’ mission through sacrificial giving and serving. It was women who were the first witnesses to Christ’s resurrection. Jesus not only entered this world with a radical message of “Good News”, but He broke down the barriers between men and women, Jew and Gentile, rich and poor and the righteous and sinners. His mission was and is all inclusive. Everyone can contribute. Everyone plays a part.

The Big Question

How did the religious leaders react to Jesus’ inclusion of women in His ministry? What are some ways that women made a significant impact on Jesus’ ministry? What are some ways that women are making a significant impact on the cause of Christ today? If you are a woman, how has Jesus’ inclusion of women encouraged you today?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
