Mark 15:1-5

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, reached a decision. They bound Jesus, led Him away and handed Him over to Pilate. “Are you the King of the Jews?” asked Pilate. “Yes, it is as you say,” Jesus replied. The chief priests accused Him of many things. So again, Pilate asked Him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.” But Jesus made no reply, and Pilate was amazed.

Devotion

Pilate’s interview with Jesus was an interesting exchange. In John’s Gospel we see a little more of the dialogue between the two men. When Pilate questions the religious leaders about their reasons for demanding death by crucifixion, they replied, “He must die, because He claimed to be the Son of God.” When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid. Jesus answered the only question that really mattered: Are you the King of the Jews? To which Jesus responded, “Yes, it is as you say.” Pilate, like everyone else, had to decide what he was going to do with the claims of Jesus.

The Big Question

The debate continues. The resurrection is the final piece of the puzzle. Because there is an empty tomb, we can believe the claims of Christ and the Apostles. So, we have enough information to consider the claims of Jesus. In the four Gospels we see that Jesus is THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD. We see that Jesus is DEITY. He came the first time as a SUFFERING MESSIAH to atone for mankind’s rebellion and sin. He promises He will come a second time as KING of KINGS and LORD of LORDS. So, who is Jesus to you?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence, reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
