Matthew 16:13-17

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philipi, He asked His disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” He asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.”

Devotion

In this second half of the Jesus series, we will be focusing on key names or titles of Jesus each week. Today we pick up where we left off last fall, with Jesus asking the disciples: “Who do you say that I am?” Peter confesses, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” This declaration is a turning point in the 3 Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke). Jesus now begins to speak about His rejection and death in Jerusalem.

The Big Question

“Who do you say that I am?” Have you answered this question yet? What implications result from Peter’s declaration concerning Jesus? Do you believe that Jesus is the promised Messiah from the Old Testament? If so, how has this truth impacted your life two thousand years after Peter’s declaration?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence, reflecting on what God has revealed to you today.
