Matthew 21:8-11

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of Him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the Highest!” When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?” The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

Devotion

Following Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, many in the crowd were asking: “Who is this?” The general consensus was that He was a prophet from the region of Galilee. Unlike His followers who proclaimed Him to be “the Son of David,” the crowds equated Jesus with the prophets of old who were called to speak God’s message to the children of Israel. Many people today view Jesus as a prophet. They would see Him as just another one of the many people in history who came declaring they had a message from God.

The Big Question

If Jesus was just a prophet, what implications does this hold for us today? If Jesus was a prophet along the lines of Daniel or Isaiah, then what do we do with His claims to grant eternal life to those who believe in Him? Do you see Jesus as just a prophet? Who is Jesus to you?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence, reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
