Matthew 24:42-47

Spend time in prayer and silence with God, asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

“Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you must also be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him. Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.”

– Matthew 24:42-47

Devotion

This is the practical conclusion of the whole matter. That our Lord is coming is certain; that His coming may be at any moment is a matter of faith; and that the world is ignorant of the time of His coming is a matter of fact. Every day that passes, we are one day closer to the return of Christ. As servants of the Most High, we are to be on alert and live each day as if it were our last on earth.

The Big Question

How does Jesus’ resurrection embolden your faith as you think about His second coming? How are you living out the reality that Jesus will come back to set up His kingdom? How has Matthew chapter 24 challenged you this week? How has Matthew 24 encouraged you this week?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence, reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
