Matthew 3:13-15

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” Jesus replied, “Let it be so for now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on Him. I would not have known Him, except the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is He who will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.’ I have seen and testify that this is the Son of God.”

Devotional

In the text above, we get a glimpse of the humility of John the Baptist. He recognized who Jesus was and could not comprehend why Jesus should be baptized by him. Jesus was already ‘righteous’ as the ‘Son of God’, needing no ‘forgiveness for sins’ or ‘repentance’, yet according to Him it was proper to be baptized.

The Big Question

Why do you think Jesus’ baptism was essential? How does Jesus’ willingness to be baptized by John impact you?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
