Matthew 4:18-22

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him.

Devotional

This was the second meeting between Jesus and these men. The first time they were curious and were just checking this Jesus out. Now Jesus invites them to join Him in what He is doing. This invitation has major implications for these men. Yet, they step out in faith and begin this new journey with Jesus.

The Big Question

What was Jesus’ deeper call to them? Who and what did they leave behind to follow Jesus? What have you had to leave behind in order to follow Jesus? Following Jesus is a lifelong commitment. We follow Him because of who He is and what He has done. What has it cost you to follow Jesus?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
