Matthew 3:11

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come One who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” Jesus replied, “Let it be so for now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the One I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me.’ I myself did not know Him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that He might be revealed to Israel.”

Devotional

The beginning of Jesus’ public ministry began with Him identifying with those who recognized their need for forgiveness and desired to repent (change their attitudes and actions). All four gospel writers record Jesus’ baptism. As we read all four accounts, Jesus is presented as: One more powerful than John the Baptist, One whose sandals I am not worthy to carry, One whom you do not know, One who will baptize you with the Holy Spirit, One who is before me, One who will judge the earth and the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

The Big Question

Which one of these depictions of Jesus speaks to you the most? Why?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
