Pastoral Transition: Beginning Stages

January 31, 2021

2021 Is A Year of Transition

We begin the search for the next lead pastor of Oak Pointe Church, Novi.

As Pastor Bob has shared periodically over the past year, he is planning to wrap up his time leading Oak Pointe Church in the coming months. But this transition has been in the works since 2018 and a team has been at work behind the scenes praying and making sure this is a successful transition for both Bob and Shirley and the church body.

This past weekend we spent about ten minutes explaining the pastoral transition process and timing during the weekend services. If you missed it, you can watch it again here and find the details listed below.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the 2021 Pastoral Transition, please email Jim Hobbs, our executive pastor.

This Past Weekend’s Announcement

From Barry Krick, Pastoral Transition Team Lead

God worked through Bob and Shirley Shirock to begin Oak Pointe Church 24 years ago. They have served faithfully and now feel led to move toward their next phase of life. The Pastoral Transition Team has established the following timeline to seek the next Lead Pastor of Oak Pointe Church:

Planning Phase: 2018-2020

  • Three years ago a team comprised of elders was formed to begin preparing for this transition. Barry Krick was appointed to lead this team.
  • The Pastoral Transition Team has been diligently meeting, praying, and developing a comprehensive position profile.
  • The Team determined that it would be best to hire a professional Christian Search Firm to conduct the search.

Discovery Phase: 2021

  • February: Hire a search firm, kick-off the discovery process, begin a congregational survey
  • March: Begin the official search
  • July: Candidates presented

Selection Phase: 2021

  • July: Advisory Team assembled
  • August: Final interviews
  • September: Candidate hired
  • October: Candidate begins

The above timeframe is an estimate, and we trust God to lead the process and adjust the timeframe as necessary. We will be sharing monthly updates on the process with the congregation during weekend services throughout 2021. Thanks for praying with us as we move forward in this critical transition.
