Proverbs 1:20-31

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroy them; but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.
– Proverbs 1:20-31

My son, do not lose sight of these – keep sound wisdom and discretion, and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck. Then you will walk on your way securely, and your foot will not stumble. If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.
– Proverbs 3:21-26

Devotion

The cares of life, the uncertainty in this world, and the results of sins effects in this world can often cause us to worry about the future. We can live in terror, lose countless nights of sleep, and fail to follow God’s direction due to our fear of potential consequences. We may neglect to fully follow God because of our lack of trust. This fear can cause us to remain spiritually frozen, and can even lead to our own destruction.

This is not the kind of life that we are to lead as followers of Jesus Christ. Because we have hope beyond hope, namely that Jesus came to earth to save the world from sin, once we accept Him as our Savior we have eternal security. We know that, regardless of what this life throws at us, no one can take away our ultimate victory. Likewise, we can have confidence that God is in control of our situation no matter how out of control it may seem. We can give our fears, sleepless nights, and unknown concerns to the almighty God who made us. When we seek God’s wisdom and direction, He is more than capable to carry us through the storms of life.

The Big Question

Is your life controlled by fear of the unknown or do you feel peace, trusting God for the future? If your life is characterized by fear, reflect and pray about this teaching, “What shall we say then in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what you have learned.
