Devotion

Many proverbs tell us that righteousness is more important than money. Our society often gives the message that just the opposite is true. Solomon shows us by his very own life that the pursuit of wealth and possessions is like “chasing the wind” (Ecclesiastes 2:25). As God’s children, we need to be careful not to buy into the idea that having more wealth brings happiness and contentment. Whenever we need wisdom, we can pray to God, and he will generously give us what we truly need. Seek God first in all you do and ask Him to give you wisdom regarding your wealth and possessions so they don’t rule your life. Try it and see how God brings you balance, peace, joy and contentment!

The Big Question

How much of your time and energy are devoted to accumulating wealth and possessions? Do you think that having more money would solve all your problems? How often do you pray for God’s wisdom? How can you find true peace and contentment? If this is an area of life you struggle with, as many of us do, ask God to give you wisdom and surrender your financial worries to Him. It will be life-changing.
