Bible Reading

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

– Proverbs 3:5-6

Devotion

In our study on the Kings and Prophets, we have seen how the kings of both Israel and Judah have made bad decisions that have had a negative impact on them as well as on the nations they were leading. Last weekend, Charlie focused on the decision making process. As Christians, we want to make good decisions that reflect God’s will. But with all the decisions we have to make, it does seem hard to discern God’s will. In his first point, Charlie encouraged us to first “check with God” before making any big decisions in life. In Romans the 12th chapter, we discover the key to discerning God’s will is daily presenting ourselves as a living sacrifice to God. This means it is imperative that we surrender our minds (will) and our bodies (ways) to God each and every day.

The Big Question

So often in life, we tend to rely on our own intellect and experiences when it comes to making big decisions. Although God wants us to use our minds to glorify Him, we first must check with God’s heart. God’s ways are not our ways, and God’s thoughts are not our thoughts. We must strive to bring our thinking in alignment with God’s thinking. Do you spend quality time in prayer with God so that your heart will be knit with His? Are you able to discern the other voices that are competing for your attention? Are you able to surrender your will and your ways to God that you might be able to discern His will in all things?

Spend some time in prayer meditating on what God revealed to you through His Word today.
