Psalm 3

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking him to meet you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom.
LORD, how many are my foes!
How many rise up against me!
Many are saying of me,
“God will not deliver him.”
But you, LORD, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
I call out to the LORD,
and he answers me from his holy mountain.
I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.
I will not fear though tens of thousands
assail me on every side.
Arise, LORD!
Deliver me, my God!
Strike all my enemies on the jaw;
break the teeth of the wicked.
From the LORD comes deliverance.
May your blessing be on your people.

– Psalm 3

Devotion

Absalom and his followers were plotting to kill David. Instead of sitting on his throne in a place of power and authority, David was running for his life when he wrote this Psalm. Often, when circumstances go against us, it is very tempting to think that God is against us as well. As David testifies, when it seems like the world is unraveling around us, God is still for us. If circumstances in life have turned against you, don’t blame God, but seek him as David did. We can overcome fear by trusting God for his protection during our most fearful experiences in life.

The Big Question

Have you ever urgently cried out to God for something? How did God answer your prayers? Are you in one of those difficult times now? If you allow Him, God can use these experiences to stretch your faith and grow your relationship with Him.

Conclude in prayer and silence reflecting on what you’ve learned.
